south beach minus the mosquitoes

Some of Mike's friends from work wanted to plan a camping trip so off to South Beach it was. A couple weeks after the plans were made it went from five families to four, then from four to three, the Shultz's,the Nall's and us. This was great with me! We had fun on the beach exploring the tide pools, playing in the sand and enjoying the SUN! (yes we had sunshine and blue skies at the Oregon Coast!)
We had fun around the camp site, eating junk food, making smores, and just hanging out!
We had fun out and about. We visited the "haunted" Light House, got carmel corn at the candy shop and visited our friends (sea lions) at the Bay front. My kids (that's my big kid, Mike included) were so excited to find the sea lions were back! That's a good lookin' bunch! From left to right: Mikaela, Kaylee, Jake, Aubree, Braedon. Next row: Shawn, Lexi and Spencer. These kids had fun together, they totally got along and played so well!
We had fun pretending to eat the baby fish that came out of the bellies of these perch that the men caught! Who knew that some fish gave birth to live fish and not eggs! Mike said as soon as they would catch a fish on the line the babies would just start poppin' out. When they pulled them in they would squeeze their bellies a few more times to get the last of the babies out...hundreds of babies were born that day! But apparently not ALL the babies came out and the kids for whatever reason thought it would be fun to play with them, eekkk!
I just want to remember the good parts of the trip so I will leave out the part when we broke the wheel to our trailer ($23) and messed up the driveway, the other part when we jackknifed and messed up the trailer ($339) and the bumper ($?), and the other part when Eric pounded his dog leash stake into the ground and ruptured a water pipe that caused "Old Faithful" to erupt and flood us out of our two campsites and then we had to, at the speed of lighting, empty a tent and move it and then build a dam so that we didn't mess up our neighbors tent and then get the park ranger to come shut off the water to that loop of campsites. Luckily for Eric, this was a "free" mistake that he made. Then we had the part where the Nall's golden retriever, J.B., tried to "EAT" the Shultz's...uh, dog? Rat? Anyway...Whatever Taco is, it was almost eaten by Nall's dog! Good times!

Finding Joy

As I sat across from my friend, I looked at her sad countenance. Her dropped shoulders, look of despair & the lack of joy in her eyes. I...
