what's in a name...

So there we were debating on a name for our baby to be. We had no idea what to name her. We had come up with three names that we really liked but couldn't decide on one of them. We had the following three names chosen: Aleah, Kristine, and Aubree. Aleah was a name that Kelli REALLY liked. The other two had some significance. Kristine is Kelli's middle name. Aubree, on the other hand had quite a funny background. We were driving to Idaho in November for our little family get away and we were discussing what to name the baby when she comes. I said "Well, Kaylee is named after your dad (Lee) so we should name this daughter after my dad."

The problem: My dad's name is Ralph Dale Edson. What in the heck are we gonna use from that name?

The solution: Throughout my dad's life growing up as kid and even til now he has been called Ob by his sisters and brother. His dad, my Grandpa (Poppy) nicknamed him that cause he was so obnoxious. That name, Ob, has stuck through all of these years and we all call him that still. Everyone in the family calls him that whether it is us kids, my mom, my Grandma, my Aunts and Uncles on my dad's side...Everyone calls him that. I said jokingly "Let's just name her Ob. That would be funny." I, of course, was kidding...Kelli said, "Well, how about Aubree?" The name stuck with me. It had a great, humorous background and was a pretty name too.

So, those are the three names that we couldn't decide between. So, about three or four weeks ago we decided to take a vote on which name we should go with. We thought that we should get all of our family and close friends involved in the selection process. We would then put the story in her book when she turns a year old. The baby could look back on this years from now and be able to read the background on how she got her name.
